The Argus Store is putting up an addition to its one store room, for a grocery department. Therefore in a few days the Argus Store will open with a full supply of groceries and provisions.
125 Years Ago: From the Aug. 1, 1901 Scott County Argus
Last Tuesday Wm. Thiede sold his stock of confectionery and toys to Mike Berens, who will take charge as soon as an invoice has been taken. Mr. Berens disposed of his goods to Mr. Thiede less than five months ago and went to Salem, Ill., to live, but since that time neither he nor his wife have been well, and therefore decided to return. Mr. Thiede was not desirous of selling out but could not resist the offer made by Mr. Berens. He will look up a location in some other town and engage in the same line of business.
125 Years Ago: From the Aug. 2, 1901 Shakopee Tribune
Last Friday work was begun by Fischer & Peterson on the new piazza which is to replace the old plank porch and steps along the entire front of the Court House. The unsightly wooden structure has been removed, and in its place will be built a piazza with brick walls, a cement floor, and a railing around the whole except at the center, or front door, where a twelve foot stairway of cement will lead up from the cement walk. The improvement will be remarkable, and of enduring shape. The brick walls are already up, and present a neat architectural appearance with paneled rectangles marked off by columns in relief, the latter being of pressed brick. The five foot deep space between the walls and the building will be filled in with dirt, and on this filling will be laid the cement floor.

Spring Lake Road Was Closed on Tuesday
On Tuesday of this week Contractor Weaver started work on the Marschall hill and consequently the Spring Lake road is closed for the present. This will make it necessary for any one on this side desiring to reach Prior Lake or points beyond to go by way of the Grainwood road.

Plans for dedicating a new ball park at Marystown, Wednesday, Aug. 15, were announced by committeemen in charge of arrangements.

Library, police station atop city building plans
The Shakopee City Council intends to place a new public library atop its construction list starting next spring with a police station to follow at about the same time.
The City Council is planning to begin construction of a library in the spring of 2002 on the current library site. The city is eyeing a vacant parcel on Gorman Street, behind Citizens State Bank, as the new home for a police station and city hall.
