On Friday and Saturday a few grasshoppers were flying over Shakopee from the north towards the south, going with the wind. Their flight was high but occasionally a large one was precipitated down to the ground. We do not learn that any flock lit at any place in this county.

A representative of the state board of health was in town today getting samples of water for analysis. They will probably find out that Shakopee’s drinking water is as pure as any in the state.

Basement Fire Endangers Two Stores Tuesday
Fire of undetermined origin threatened the Sanford and Mahar hardware and the McMurray store Tuesday afternoon.
The blaze was confined to the basement beneath the two stores, where a pillar and a portion of the ceiling were charred.
Smoke pouring from basement windows on the east side of the building gave the first indication of the fire. W. H. Sanford went to the basement and fought the blaze with a hose attached to a laundry tub faucet, until firemen were summoned.
The building, owned by L. A. Ketterer, also houses the post office and the Commander apartments.

Call Special Vote On City Land Sale
In an effort to cooperate with Shakopee industry needs and also to provide building sites for new industry desiring to locate in Shakopee, the common council have called a special election for Monday, August 27.

Bank charter granted
After almost three years of court battles, a bank charter was granted by the Minnesota Supreme Court Friday to applicants for a new Citizens State Bank in Shakopee.
The Citizens State Bank applied for and was granted in 1974 a certificate authorizing them to transact business in Shakopee by the State Commerce Commission.
The First National Bank of Shakopee then appealed that decision to the Minnesota Supreme Court. That decision was handed down Friday…

Shakopee still metro new-housing leader
New-housing permits have begun to surge again after a slowdown in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, and Shakopee continued to be the region’s leader, according to figures from the Builders Association of the Twin Cities.
In the number of permits issued, Shakopee was tops in July with 47. The next two cities are considered outlying suburbs: Rogers was second with 41 permits, followed by Monticello with 33. Lakeville was fourth with 30 permits, followed by Eden Prairie and Hastings, tied for fifth with 29 each…
